    What researchers can do

Upright confocal with a 32-channel spectral GaAsP detector for single-scan spectral detection and linear unmixing, a Spectra-Physics MaiTai laser for two-photon imaging, and a large fixed stage built for combined electrophysiology and in vivo work. Supports FRET and FRAP.

The Zeiss LSM 780 NLO pairs a 32-channel spectral GaAsP detector with a Spectra-Physics MaiTai laser for two-photon imaging, on a large fixed stage designed for combined electrophysiology and imaging.

Configuration. Upright AxioExaminer stand with a large fixed stage. Confocal excitation at 405, 458, 488, 514, 561 and 635 nm, with the MaiTai covering 700 to 1040 nm for multi-photon work. The 32-channel spectral GaAsP detector is very sensitive and supports single-scan spectral detection with linear unmixing, alongside FRET and FRAP experiments. Point-scanning photostimulation is available at both one and two photons. Transmitted light offers brightfield via T-PMT plus DODT contrast. Live imaging covers in vivo and electrophysiology work; cleared samples are limited to the 5x air objective.

    Objectives. EC Plan-Neofluar 5x/0.16 M27 (air, WD 18.5 mm); W Plan-Apochromat 20x/1.0 DIC (UV) VIS-IR M27 (water, WD 1.7 mm); Plan-Apochromat 40x/1.4 Oil DIC (UV) VIS-IR M27 (oil, WD 0.13 mm); Plan-Apochromat 63x/1.40 Oil DIC M27 (oil, WD 0.19 mm).

Software. Zen 2010, with Zen Lite available as a free viewer. Laser use authorization 4158.
