Agilent 1260 Infinity II HPLC UV/RI System

    Faculty of Arts and Science
    Biology
    Concordia University

Primary Function: A high-performance liquid chromatography platform designed for analytical and preparative applications.

The Agilent 1260 Infinity II HPLC System is a state-of-the-art liquid chromatography platform renowned for its outstanding performance, reliability, and versatility across a wide range of analytical applications. It is ideal for research, quality control, and routine testing in various industries, delivering fast, accurate, and reproducible results with ease. This modular system can be configured to meet specific laboratory needs, offering robust separation and detection performance.

Key System Components (typical for UV/RI configuration):

    1. Agilent G7111A/B Quaternary Pump: Provides exceptional precision, flexibility, and efficiency with stable, low-pulsation solvent delivery and high-pressure capabilities.
    2. Agilent G7129A Vial Sampler / Multisampler: Designed for automated, high-throughput sample processing with ultra-low carryover, often featuring multi-wash capabilities to reduce carryover to less than 9 ppm.
    3. Agilent G1316A / G7116A Thermostatted Column Compartment (TCC) / Multicolumn Thermostat (MCT): Offers precise temperature control over a broad range (Ambient -10°C to 85°C) and can hold up to four columns, facilitating method development and robust separations.
    4. UV Detector (e.g., G7114A Variable Wavelength Detector or G7115A Diode Array Detector): Provides precise quantification with high sensitivity, fast analysis rates (up to 120 Hz), and a broad wavelength range (e.g., 190-950 nm for DAD).
    5. Refractive Index (RI) Detector (e.g., G1362A or G7162A): Essential for analyzing compounds without chromophores, offering high sensitivity, excellent reproducibility (0.1% RSD), and precise temperature control (ambient +5°C to 55°C).
    6. Integrated Degasser: Ensures reliable solvent management by removing dissolved gases.
    7. PC & Agilent OpenLab CDS Software: For instrument control, data acquisition, analysis, and reporting, supporting regulatory compliance.

    Technical Specifications:

    1. Detector Types: UV detector (VWD/DAD) for precise quantification with high sensitivity and fast data rates; Refractive Index (RI) detector for analyzing compounds without chromophores with high sensitivity and precise temperature control.
    2. Sample Injection: Automated multisampler with ultra-low carryover (<9 ppm with multi-wash), supporting up to 16 microtiter plates or 6,144 samples, and injection volumes from 0.1 µL to 5 mL.
    3. Elution: Gradient elution capabilities with quaternary and binary pump options, enabling complex and fast, precise gradients.
    4. Pressure Capabilities: Operates up to 600 bar (8700 psi), compatible with both HPLC and UHPLC columns.
    5. Flow Rate Range: Up to 10 mL/min, suitable for analytical and semi-preparative applications.
    6. Column Compartment: Thermostatted, with a broad temperature range from Ambient -10°C to 85°C, capable of holding up to four columns with Quick-Connect fittings.

Applications: Analytical and preparative chromatography, quantification of compounds, analysis of compounds lacking chromophores. Widely used in research, quality control, and routine testing across various industries including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food and beverage, and environmental analysis. It supports method development, high-throughput testing, and specialized applications like biomolecule analysis (with bio-inert modules) and polymer/biopolymer characterization (GPC/SEC).
