This is a modified commercial microwave oven outfitted with a stainless-steel enclosure and top-mounted sample port for direct irradiation of powdered mineral samples. A fume extraction duct vents gases during microwave heating. Inside, samples sit on a removable platform that can be purged with inert gas or run under ambient air. Used to study microwave-induced changes in mineral surface chemistry and magnetic properties—most notably pyrite—under controlled heating conditions. Ideal for microwave-assisted mineral processing, pyro- and calcination experiments, and research into enhanced separation of rare earth and sulfide minerals.
