Combines AFM with infrared light to identify chemistry at the nanoscale: AFM-IR chemical maps and point spectra, plus s-SNOM for optical constants, with depth sensitivity from monolayers to hundreds of nanometers.

Our nanoIR3-s pairs an AFM with an APE Carmina broadband laser source for nanoscale chemical identification. Photothermal AFM-IR gives chemical maps, point spectra and hyperspectral maps. Scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) determines complex optical constants (absorption, reflection, refractive index). Nanoscale thermal analysis (nano-TA), transition temperature microscopy and scanning thermal microscopy (SThM) are also available.
We run the nanoIR3-s together with the Advanced Nanomaterials and Manufacturing Laboratory (ANML). We train one superuser per research group in topography and AFM-IR modes; advanced modes such as s-SNOM and SThM are run in collaboration with the ANML tool leads. Write to us to request access.
