    McGill University

    The Rosalind & Morris Goodman Cancer Institute offers hands-on histology training for researchers looking to develop new skills or refine existing techniques. Our small-group training sessions (maximum three participants) ensure personalized instruction with direct support from core facility technicians.

    Training Structure

    🔹 Lab Orientation

    • Overview of equipment locations, safety procedures, and first aid stations.
    • Introduction to the machine's features, safety mechanisms, and operational rules.

    🔹 Equipment Demonstration

    • Technicians will demonstrate proper operation, explaining each step in detail.
    • Key techniques, best practices, and troubleshooting tips will be covered.

    🔹 Hands-On Practice

    • Trainees will operate the equipment under technician supervision.
    • Core staff will provide guidance, corrections, and personalized feedback.

    🔹 Independent Use Certification

    • Once trainees demonstrate safe and competent operation, they will be cleared for independent booking of the equipment.
    • Technicians remain available for additional support or troubleshooting.

    Training Requirements & Policies

    ✅ Mandatory Training for All Users

    To access any Histology Core equipment, users must complete a training session with a Histology Core Technician. This ensures both user safety and equipment protection.

    ✅ Equipment & Specimen Use

    • All necessary tools and practice specimens are provided.
    • Researchers may bring their own tissue samples to train with if desired.

    How to Register

    📅 Training sessions are scheduled by appointment. Contact the Histology Core to book a session.
