Hands-on training on one microscope, required before you use it on your own. A flat fee per person, per scope.

You get a quote confirming scope and timing before work starts.
You receive
- Hands-on training on the scope you will use
- Widefield training: about 2.5 to 4 hours
- Confocal training: about 4 hours
- Your microscopy user ID and the scope's user email group
Training and account setup are mandatory on every system before independent use. Request training about 7 to 10 days before you expect to start imaging, with your faculty mentor's approval. The request also carries our safety questions, so there is nothing else to fill in. Widefield training usually takes 2.5 to 4 hours depending on the scope and application; please allow 4 hours for confocal training. Labmates can train together if you coordinate your requests.
The fee shown is for a recharge scope. UCSC users training on a scope that is not on recharge pay no training fee, but may be billed scope time for the length of the session. External users training on a scope that is not on recharge are billed scope time for the length of the session.
If it has been more than 6 months since you used a microscope, contact us for refresher training before you resume.
