FARO Laser ScanArm V3 3D Scanner

    Faculty of Engineering
    Mechanical Engineering
    McGill University

The FARO Laser ScanArm V3 is a portable, all‑in‑one metrology solution that marries FARO’s 7‑axis articulated measurement arm with the integrated Laser Line Probe V3. Its seamless blend of hard‑probe contact measurement and high‑density, non‑contact laser scanning lets you switch between tactile point checks and full‑field surface scans without swapping attachments. With a lightweight, ergonomic design, wireless compatibility on Bluetooth‑enabled FARO arms, and rapid warm‑up, the ScanArm V3 accelerates reverse engineering, quality inspection, rapid prototyping, and 3D modeling workflows across aerospace, automotive, mold‑and‑die, metal fabrication, and more.

    Key Specifications:

    • Supplier: FARO Technologies, Inc.
    • Catalog number: BC # 46228‑L/T
    • Arm configuration: 7‑axis articulated arm, reach options 6 ft (1.8 m) to 12 ft (3.7 m)
    • Volumetric accuracy (Fusion mode): 0.0034 in (0.086 mm) at 8 ft (2.4 m) reach
    • Line‑probe accuracy: 0.0014 in (35 µm); repeatability: ±0.0014 in (±35 µm, 2σ)
    • Stand‑off distance: 3.75 in (95 mm); depth of field: 3.35 in (85 mm)
    • Effective scan width: 1.34 in (34 mm) near field; 2.36 in (60 mm) far field
    • Scan rate: up to 19,200 points/sec (30 fps × 640 pts/line)
    • Laser source: 660 nm, CDRH Class II / IEC Class 2M
    • Probe weight: 370 g
    • Operating conditions: 10 – 40 °C (50 – 104 °F); 0 – 95 % RH non‑condensing
    • Power supply: 85 – 245 VAC, 50/60 Hz (universal)
