    What researchers can do

High-speed light-sheet imaging of large cleared samples, up to 40 x 75 mm.

The SmartSPIM is a light-sheet microscope for high-speed volumetric imaging of large, optically cleared samples. An axially swept light sheet keeps axial resolution uniform across the field of view, with compensation for refractive-index mismatch and chromatic focal shifts.

It takes fixed samples from a few millimeters up to 40 x 75 mm and works with many clearing methods: EasyIndex imaging oil (RI 1.52) for SHIELD and CUBIC, and ethyl cinnamate (RI 1.56) for iDISCO and related methods. A second computer processes data while the first acquires.

    • High-speed volumetric light-sheet imaging
    • High-sensitivity camera with low photobleaching
    • Axially swept light sheet for uniform axial resolution
    • Simultaneous acquisition and processing

Papers with data from this system acknowledge the Sandler Program for Breakthrough Biomedical Research, partially funded by the Sandler Foundation. Room 472A, Weill Neurosciences Building.
