    Biology
    Concordia University

Primary Function: This high-performance, refrigerated laboratory centrifuge, the Beckman Coulter Avanti J-E, is engineered for efficient separation of biological samples and other mixtures based on density. It features a powerful, high-torque switched reluctance (SR) drive technology for fast and precise separations, accommodating a wide range of laboratory needs. The compact design and energy-efficient operation make it suitable for various lab environments.

Applications: The Avanti J-E is ideal for a comprehensive array of applications including cell harvesting, protein purification, nucleic acid isolation, and general sample preparation in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology laboratories. Its capabilities extend to cellular, genetic, and protein analysis, routine processing such as pelleting, extractions, purifications, concentrations, phase separations, and spin column/filter centrifugations. It is also well-suited for rapid sedimentation of protein precipitates, large particles, and cell debris, as well as the preparation of subcellular organelles like mitochondria, nuclei, chloroplasts, and crude microsomes. For clinical research, it effectively handles blood component isolation using various gradient kits with conical tubes and bottles for swinging bucket rotors.
