    Avanti J-26 XPI-2 Centrifuge

    Faculty of Arts and Science
    Biology
    Concordia University

Primary Function: The Beckman Coulter Avanti J-26 XPI is a high-performance, refrigerated centrifuge designed for advanced separation techniques across a wide range of biological and chemical samples. It is known for combining high speed, complete biosafety systems, and long-term durability, making it a versatile choice for demanding laboratory environments.

    Key Features & Capabilities:

    1. Microprocessor-controlled for interactive operation with programmable acceleration and deceleration times.
    2. Equipped with a brushless switched-reluctance drive motor, automatic rotor identification system, and Friction Reduction System (FRS) for efficient and quiet performance.
    3. Features vacuum control circuitry and a precise temperature control system, maintaining temperatures from -10°C to 40°C with ±2°C accuracy.
    4. Capable of processing up to 6 liters of fermentor output in less than 10 minutes and delivering subcellular fractions at up to 82,000 x g.
    5. Supports DNA sample preparation with the ability to run up to 24 microplates simultaneously using compatible rotors.
    6. Fully compatible with J-Lite rotor series and adaptable with over 32 rotor combinations to meet diverse separation needs.

Applications: Suitable for applications requiring high g-forces, such as differential centrifugation, density gradient separations (e.g., Ficoll-Hypaque, Percoll), and large-volume processing. Ideal for routine sample preparations, pelleting, extractions, purifications, concentrations, phase separations, and spin column/filter centrifugations. Also used for rapid sedimentation of protein precipitates, large particles, cell debris, preparation of subcellular organelles (mitochondria, nuclei, chloroplasts, microsomes), separation of blood cells and cellular components, pelleting of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, nucleic acid precipitation, virus isolation, and bacteriophage isolation. Its elutriation capabilities also make it suitable for separating live cell populations.

Availability Context: This model is frequently available on the used and refurbished equipment market from various suppliers, often with warranties. Rental options may also be available from specialized lab equipment providers.
