    LI-COR Odyssey M FluoroImaging System

Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences
    Oral Biology
    McGill University

The LI-COR Odyssey M Imaging System is a cutting-edge, multimodal imager designed for diverse applications in life science research. It functions as a comprehensive Western blot imager, plate reader, slide scanner, and luminescence imager, providing unparalleled versatility for laboratory workflows. This system is engineered to streamline data acquisition and analysis, allowing researchers to explore a wide array of assays on a single platform. Technically, the Odyssey M features a sophisticated sCMOS image sensor, delivering an industry-leading 5-micron resolution for exceptional detail, particularly in tissue section imaging. It boasts a dynamic range of over 6 logs, effectively eliminating imager saturation and ensuring accurate quantification across a broad range of signal intensities. The system offers 19 imaging channels, supporting near-infrared (NIR) and visible fluorescence, bio- and chemiluminescence, and RGB true color imaging. Its innovative line-scanning technology enables rapid data acquisition, capturing comprehensive data in minutes rather than hours. The image field size is 25 cm W × 18 cm D, with a dedicated scan area for chemiluminescence of 15 cm W × 11 cm D. The instrument dimensions are 61 cm W × 76 cm D × 38 cm H, and it weighs 55 kg with the chemiluminescence module. The Odyssey M supports an extensive range of applications, including quantitative Western blots, In-Cell Western™ assays, cell analysis, protein estimation, and high-resolution slide imaging for rapid tissue section triage. Other key applications include EMSA/Gel Shift Assay, Glycoprotein Staining, Nucleic Acid Gel Imaging, Fluorescent Gel Staining, Chemiluminescent Western Blots, Gene Knockdown and Knockout studies, Protein Arrays, ELISA, and On-Cell Western Assays. Its broad application versatility allows researchers to address complex biological questions that would typically require multiple instruments. Additional features of the Odyssey M include an onboard high-performance chemiluminescence module, eliminating the need for separate optical modules. All 19 channels are integrated and calibrated for consistent performance, and the system requires no assembly. It is compatible with LI-COR Acquisition Software and Empiria Studio® Software, which provide guided workflows for reliable and publishable results. The Odyssey M technology has been cited in over 75,000 peer-reviewed publications, underscoring its reliability and widespread adoption in the scientific community.
