    Avanti J-30 I-1 Centrifuge

    Faculty of Arts and Science
    Biology
    Concordia University

Primary Function: The Beckman Coulter Avanti J-30I is a high-performance, refrigerated laboratory centrifuge engineered for the efficient separation of biological samples and other mixtures based on density. It offers near ultracentrifuge capabilities, making it suitable for demanding research applications.

    Key Features & Capabilities:

    1. Achieves fastest separations possible in the shortest amount of time with unmatched acceleration/deceleration rates.
    2. Features a robust Switched Reluctance Drive (SR Drive) technology for quiet and low-vibration operation.
    3. Microprocessor-controlled with digital control for speed, time, and temperature, including programmable operation for up to 30 programs.
    4. Equipped with automatic rotor identification and an imbalance safety check for secure operation.
    5. Maintains sample integrity with a temperature range of -20°C to 40°C, utilizing CFC-free refrigerants.
    6. Designed for high-throughput processing with a maximum capacity of 4 liters.

Applications: Ideal for a wide range of applications including cell harvesting, protein purification, nucleic acid isolation, and general sample preparation in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology laboratories. Specific uses include bacteria and cell membrane isolation, DNA sample preparation, protein separations with fixed-angle rotors, and separation of sub-cellular organelles through rate zonal centrifugation.

Availability Context: The Avanti J-30I was officially made obsolete by Beckman Coulter as of January 31, 2022; however, ongoing service and support are provided. Used and refurbished units are widely available from various laboratory equipment resellers.
