    High-Throughput Crystallization Hub

Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
    Core Facility
    McGill University

The High-Throughput Crystallization Hub, integrated with the Macromolecular X-ray Analysis Hub, provides cutting-edge infrastructure for rapid screening and optimization of protein crystallization conditions. Since protein crystallization remains a trial-and-error process, this platform enables automated, high-throughput testing of thousands of crystallization conditions simultaneously, streamlining protein structure determination efforts.

    Key Equipment & Capabilities:

    • Robotic Drop Dispensers – Automates crystallization droplet setup for hundreds of conditions in parallel.
    • Automated Storage & Viewing Station – Allows real-time remote monitoring of crystallization progress via Internet access.
    • Protein Analysis Equipment – Supports characterization of samples before crystallization trials.
    • Upcoming Upgrades:
    • Third Liquid Handling Robot – Further increasing automation for high-throughput screening.
    • Second State-of-the-Art Incubator with In Situ UV Imaging – Enables real-time tracking of protein crystal growth for optimal structure determination.

This facility is essential for structural biology, drug discovery, and macromolecular research, providing an efficient and automated solution to crystal screening and optimization.

For McGill lab users, unsupervised access is available at $10/hour. Prior training and booking are required for equipment usage.
