Haply Project – Open-Source Haptics Development

    Faculty of Engineering
    Mechanical Engineering
    McGill University

The Haply Project is an open-source initiative dedicated to the development of accessible haptic hardware and software for students, researchers, makers, and hobbyists. At the core of the project is the Haply development board, which integrates all necessary electronics for advanced haptics and robotics projects. Built on the Arduino Due architecture, it supports up to four motors and encoders, making it a versatile and powerful platform for haptic experimentation., In addition to the development board, the project has produced Haplet 2D and Haplet 3D, two haptic devices designed to clip onto tablets or screens to provide realistic force feedback. These devices are among the first open-source, portable haptic solutions, offering a low-cost, interactive way to experience virtual environments., The Haply firmware, circuit schematics, and simulation tools are available for researchers and developers to explore, modify, and expand upon. These resources enable users to integrate haptic feedback into simulations, robotics applications, and interactive virtual environments.
