    McGill University

The Hitachi TM4000 is a compact and user-friendly tabletop Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). It primarily uses backscattered electron (BSE) imaging, offering magnifications from x10 to x100,000 (photographic) and x25 to x250,000 (monitor display). The instrument operates at accelerating voltages of 5kV, 10kV, and 15kV, and includes a charge-up reduction vacuum mode, making it suitable for observing both conductive and non-conductive samples without extensive preparation. It is designed for ease of use and quick imaging.
