    Mass Spectrometry Facility

Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
    Core Facility
    McGill University

The Mass Spectrometry Facility at the Centre for Research in Biopharmaceuticals and Biotechnology (CRBS) provides advanced mass spectrometry capabilities for protein identification, small molecule analysis, and metabolomics. Equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation, this facility enables high-sensitivity detection, molecular characterization, and quantitative analysis of biomolecules.

    Key Equipment & Capabilities:

    • Bruker Microflex MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometer
    • Ideal for metabolite, small molecule, and small protein detection.
    • Provides matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) analysis for high-throughput sample screening.
    • Bruker Amazon Speed ETD Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer
    • Supports liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis.
    • Capable of intact protein mass determination and small molecule mass analysis.
    • Features Electron Transfer Dissociation (ETD) for improved peptide and post-translational modification characterization.
    • 1D Reverse-Phase HPLC Coupling
    • Enhances mass spectrometry workflows by providing high-resolution separation of biomolecules before MS detection.
    • Supports LC-MS/MS applications for complex sample mixtures.

This facility is essential for biopharmaceutical research, proteomics, and analytical chemistry, offering high-precision tools for molecular identification and characterization.

For McGill lab users, unsupervised access is available at $5/hour. Prior training and booking are required for equipment usage.
