Scanning/Transmission Electron Microscopy – Thermo Scientific Talos F200X G2 (S)TEM for Materials Science

    Faculty of Science
    Core Facility
    McGill University

The Thermo Scientific Talos F200X G2 (S)TEM is a high-performance 200 kV scanning/transmission electron microscope (S/TEM) designed for advanced materials characterization. Equipped with a range of cutting-edge analytical tools, this system enables high-resolution imaging, elemental mapping, and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), making it ideal for nanomaterials, semiconductors, and structural analysis.

    Key Features:

✅ ChemiSTEM Technology – Enhances energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) efficiency with increased sensitivity and speed.

✅ X-FEG High Brightness Schottky Field Emission Source – Delivers high beam current with improved stability and resolution.

✅ Ceta 16M (4k × 4k) CMOS Camera – High-resolution imaging with enhanced dynamic range and fast acquisition.

✅ Super-X Windowless EDS – Four-quadrant, in-column silicon drift detector (SDD) for high-throughput elemental analysis.

✅ Gatan Enfinium ER Model 977 – Advanced Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) system for chemical and bonding state analysis.

    ✅ High-Precision Sample Holders:

    • Single-Tilt Holder (+/- 35°) for standard imaging applications.
    • Beryllium Double-Tilt Holder – Low-background, optimized for EDS analysis.
    • Fischione Model 2021 Analytical Tomography Holder – Single-tilt (+/- 80°) for high-resolution 3D structural analysis.

This system is an excellent tool for researchers requiring high-resolution imaging, in-depth elemental characterization, and advanced spectroscopic analysis.
