    Lady Davis Institute
    Core facility
    Jewish General Hospital

This service provides researchers with access to a highly secure, spacious, and well-equipped multi-unit facility specifically designed for studies involving infectious human pathogens, including HIV-1, HIV-2, SIV, Dengue virus (serotypes 1, 2, 3, and 4), Zika virus, and HSV-1. The facility is licensed by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) for handling Risk Group 2 and Risk Group 3 pathogens, adhering to the highest safety standards defined by Canadian Biosafety Standards and Guidelines. It accommodates virology research projects, including work with clinical isolates and recombinant forms, virus isolation from patient samples, transfection of recombinant forms, and ultracentrifugation of virus preparations. The facility offers restricted access, camera surveillance, ventilation and equipment alarms, negative pressure, and requires protective clothing. It includes essential training, guidance, experiment monitoring, and ensures strict adherence to SOPs. Waste decontamination via a double-door autoclave is also provided.
