Triglyceride and cholesterol content in liver or muscle tissue is determined by the Folch method (Folch, 1957). Weighed tissue is homogenized in methanol and chloroform and extracted overnight, then 0.7% sodium chloride is added. The aqueous layer is aspirated, and duplicate aliquots of the chloroform and lipid layer are dried under nitrogen, reconstituted in isopropyl alcohol and assayed.
